The Prime Minister says to US companies: Bulgaria is a gateway to Europe

02.11.2023

Owing to its geographic location and its border with Türkiye and along with good education that trains talents and experts, Bulgaria offers plenty of opportunities for investment. That was the message delivered by Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov at the meeting with representatives of 15 of the largest US companies. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the United States of America to Bulgaria H. E. Mr. Kenneth Merten and by the CEO of the American-Central European Business Association (ACEBA) Mr. Eric Stewart.

“The region will develop and we want Bulgaria to be a central actor in this play. I am convinced that we can turn the country into the brand of the process. Bulgaria has strengths in many areas that include electronics, information technology, robotics, medicine, the automotive industry and the defense industry, among other. We want to develop a modern European high-tech industry. We have all conditions to do something bigger. That is why we are looking for bigger investors like you,” the Prime Minister addressed the audience. Acad. Nikolai Denkov noted Bulgaria’s economic growth despite the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. The country’s GDP growth was 3.9% in 2022.

The essential importance was underlined at the meeting of political stability in the country for attracting investment and developing the business environment. The achievement of some of the cabinet’s priorities – the country’s accession to the Schengen area, to the Eurozone and to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) – will be the foundation upon which Bulgaria will develop its potentials, the Prime Minister assured the delegation.

Executives from each one of the companies spoke about their line of business and role in the market. The companies represent different sectors: healthcare, defense, information and communication technology (ICT), banking and renewable energy. It is an impressive range of companies. For some of them ideas already exist for a future partnership,” Acad. Nikolai Denkov said.
