The Prime Minister discusses with Lukoil the switchover of the refinery to non-Russian oil

13.09.2023

Lukoil Neftohim Bourgas will meet the commitment it made to switch over to non-Russian oil refining. This was stated by members of the company when they met with Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov today. The discussion touched on reasonable timeframes to complete the switchover operation before the expiry of the derogation allowed by the European Commission until the end of 2024. The parties agreed to continue the dialog on this issue.

The discussion on the matter was invited by the proposed earlier termination of the European derogation concerning the oil embargo on Russia as submitted to Parliament before its summer recess by MPs from GERB-UDF (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria-Union of Democratic Forces), We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF).

The Prime Minister raised the issue of the regular payment of advance taxes that Lukoil is due to pay to the national budget. In addition to the 10% corporate tax, the company is bound to pay a temporary solidarity contribution of 33%. The Lukoil representatives assured the Prime Minister of their willingness to fulfil their obligation in keeping with the law provisions.
