18.05.2022

The Government will cooperate with the Basel Institute on Governance to improve the cabinet’s performance in the anticorruption drive.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government and the Basel Institute on Governance. The MoU was signed personally by Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and Ms. Gretta Fenner, Managing Director of the Institute.

The main goal of the MoU is to combat and eradicate corruption in Bulgaria and to recover stolen public funds through corruption and corruption-related financial crime. The partnership between the Bulgarian Government and the Basel Institute on Governance is intended to build capacity to select law enforcement and investigation officials and to improve the efficiency of performance. Cooperation with the Basel Institute on Governance will help in the draft and enactment of an efficient legislative and institutional frame to strengthen the fight against corruption and against financial crime and also in the development and implementation of an efficient national anticorruption strategy. Joint work with the Basel Institute will review the current corruption chain and illuminate key blockages and identify potential solutions.

The Basel Institute on Governance is an independent non-profit expert organization that is registered as a foundation in Switzerland and dedicated to worldwide activities with public authorities and with individuals so as to strengthen governance, counter corruption and corruption-related financial crime and recover misappropriated assets.
