06.09.2017

“The Republic of Turkey is ready for any form of cooperation with the Republic of Bulgaria that will entail security of deliveries of energy resources.” This was said by the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak, who met with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova during his one-day visit to Bulgaria. Minister Albayrak congratulated his host on the occasion of the National Holiday – the Unification of Bulgaria.

The deepening of bilateral energy cooperation was discussed both in respect to natural gas and electricity. Agreement was reached on the realization of common projects that will lead to security and diversification of deliveries of natural gas, as well as to competitive prices for the industry and individual private consumers. “Bulgaria and Turkey are strategic partners – the logical transport lines for natural gas pass through the two countries,” underlined Prime Minister Borissov.

The Bulgarian side informed their Turkish counterparts about the implementation of the concept for building the European Gas Hub “Balkan”, which is to be realized in accord with European law. During the meeting it was noted that within the framework of the pre-project probing, all entry and exit points for natural gas deliveries will be reviewed, including the entry point from Turkey. Minister Petkova reminded that the modernization and expansion of the Bulgarian gas transport system continues. This will allow for an increase in the transit capacity for gas from Bulgaria to Turkey, there will also be opportunities for reversible deliveries towards our country. The strategic importance of the inter-system gas connection Turkey-Bulgaria was also underlined, whereby the two countries will continue their work.

The Turkish side expressed interest in probing the opportunities for building additional electricity transmission lines that would allow an increase in the export capacity for electricity from Bulgaria to Turkey.
