TOMISLAV DONTCHEV: THE TRADE VOLUME BETWEEN BULGARIA AND SERBIA HAS A SIGNIFICANT GROWTH POTENTIAL

19.03.2018

History has made us neighbors, and it is up to us to be friends and work better together. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Dontchev after a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia Zorana Mihajlovic. The two discussed the need for joint efforts to promote connectivity across all fields, with a major focus on road, rail, communication infrastructure and energy.

Deputy Prime Minister Dontchev is on a working visit to Nis, where he participates in the Bulgarian-Serbian Business Forum for the Promotion of Trade Relations and Entrepreneurship. The two united around the view that the economic relations between Bulgaria and Serbia are good but below their potential, and the trade volume of EUR 1.75 billion could increase significantly.

More than 100 Bulgarian and Serbian companies from different sectors, as well as the mayors of Vidin, Kyustendil, Kostinbrod, Slivnitsa, Dragoman, Nis, Pirot, Dimitrovrad, Surdulitsa and Knyazevac took part in the forum.

“In politics, everything constitutes a sign. Today we are together and that means we want to work together,“ said Dontchev. He emphasized the main priority of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council for a European perspective for the Western Balkans: “We are proud to have succeeded in bringing this topic to the agenda of Europe. In a few month our presidency will finish, but we are determined to continue with our efforts and to achieve concrete results.”
