THE PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION URSULA VON DER LEYEN CONGRATULATED BULGARIANS ON THE OCCASION OF EASTER

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen congratulated the Bulgarians on the brightest Christian holiday of the Resurrection of Christ during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. "The Bulgarian government has demonstrated a strong will and has not closed the churches at a time when people need faith and hope," the EC President said. She also pointed out that the Bulgarians who visited churches on Easter were disciplined and followed the recommendations for social distancing.

 

During the conversation, Boyko Borissov and Ursula von der Leyen discussed the European Union's plans and possibilities for overcoming the crisis related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The two also discussed the development of concrete measures for the rapid recovery of the economies of the states from the European community. "In this situation, the EU needs to show unity. I am sure that, as always, we will find an effective solution to the problems and together we will be able to overcome in a short time the consequences of the slowdown in the economic processes and growth in the countries," said Prime Minister Borissov.

 

The Prime Minister also informed the President of the European Commission about Bulgaria's intentions to speed up its actions to apply for the Eurozone waiting room. Borissov pointed out to Leyen the achievements of our country in the process of our preparation and the concrete steps and efforts that the government, the banking sector and the supervision in our country are implementing together.
