THE MINISTER OF FINANCE TO ASK THE EBRD FOR A POSITION ON THE KALIN MITREV CASE

07.09.2017

The Minister of Finance Vladislav Goranov will ask the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to state their position on the case of Kalin Mitrev. The rationale for the inquiry is information published in foreign print media related to payments by companies to European politicians, including Mitrev.

During the meeting Goranov pointed out that Kalin Mitrev was nominated by a decision of the Council of Ministers but upon becoming an employee of the EBRD, only the bank management structures can decide on his dismissal.

In front of government members, the Minister announced that he has received information from Kalin Mitrev. In his clarifying statement, Mitrev has pointed out that during the period concerned he was not an employee of the bank and the received income has been declared while the relevant taxes on it have been paid. Mitrev also claims that the facts quoted in foreign print media constitute ungrounded speculations.

Upon receiving an official response from the EBRD, Minister Goranov will report to the government.
