THE GOVERNMENT DISCUSSED THE ISSUE OF BULGARIAN LANGUAGE TRAINING FOR OUR MINORITY IN UKRAINE AFTER THE ADOPTION OF THE LAW ON EDUCATION

13.09.2017

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov commissioned the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Education and Science to hold talks with their Ukrainian colleagues and express the concerns of the Bulgarian state in relation to the Ukrainian Law on Education, which limits the rights of minorities in Ukraine to study their mother tongue.

“After you report to me what the real situation is and how it will have an impact on us, I will ask for a meeting with President Poroshenko. He was here, he publicly thanked Bulgaria for its support. But let us first try on the ministerial level. Together with the other countries that are impacted let us do so that the interests of minorities be respected. We here are a role model in this respect and we move in this direction unconditionally. Moreover, we do not in any way try to influence or politically guide our minority and our compatriots. There are no grounds for speculations in this respect,” commented the Prime Minister.

The issue was discussed at today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers on request by the Deputy Prime Minister Krasimir Karakachanov.
