THE DEVELOPMENT OF BILATERAL TIES AND THE CHALLENGES FACING EUROPE WERE DISCUSSED BY PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV AND GERMAN PRESIDENT STEINMEIER

The development of the beneficial bilateral ties in all spheres and current European issues were among the topics discussed during the meeting between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The talks took place during the 56th Munich Security Conference.

 

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov pointed out the dynamic bilateral cooperation in a number of sectors in which the two countries have traditional ties - politics, economy, security, tourism, education and culture. "For our country, Germany remains a leading important partner in many areas. This excellent partnership is the basis for successfully meeting the challenges not only before our two countries, bu before the whole of Europe," said Boyko Borissov.

 

During the talks, the Bulgarian Prime Minister outlined the active trade and economic contacts between Bulgaria and Germany. Prime Minister Borissov emphasized on the excellent conditions for business development in Bulgaria and added that the government will continue to work on expanding the presence of Bulgarian products on the German market in sectors such as electronics and electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, information technology. "A priority for our country is to keep up the trends of bilateral trade growth, the potential can be increased and I am certain that we will enhance our efforts in this direction," Prime Minister Borissov told President Steinmeier. About 30% of the largest investors in Bulgaria are German or with German shares. 

 

An emphasis of the meeting between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was also security. "Bulgaria continues to strictly fulfill its commitments to protect the EU's external border. The migrant flow is zero, we have full exchange with all German and European offices, and we have good neighborly relations with Turkey," the Prime Minister said.

 

Maintaining stability and peace in the Western Balkan countries and promoting their European perspective were also part of the topics of the meeting between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

 

The two leaders agreed that Europe must remain united in the face of all the challenges and continue to be a factor that will guarantee European citizens security and prosperity.
