14.09.2023

Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov congratulated the new Bulgarian European Commissioner Iliana Ivanova as they spoke over phone today on two occasions: her election to represent Bulgaria in the European Commission and her birthday.

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with Iliana Ivanova’s excellent performance at her audition for the position and the impressive support when her nomination was voted in the European Parliament. Acad. Nikolai Denkov wished her health and success in her function.

After the vote in Strasbourg, Iliana Ivanova is to be appointed subject to support from the Council of the EU. She is to be the Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth and will hold the position until the conclusion of the Commission’s term in office next autumn.

The position of the European Commissioner became vacant earlier this year as Mariya Gabriel who was holding it was elected Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and rotating Prime Minister for the second nine months of this government.
