“I respect people who have devoted themselves to the spirit, knowledge and books. The government will be your reliable partner,” said Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov as he met Grand Mufti Dr. Mustafa Hadzhi and the Deputy Grand Muftis. The Prime Minister visited the Grand Mufti’s Office on the eve of the great Muslim feast Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayramı).

“Ideas can easily divide people, but also ideas can unite society. What is important is that we stand together in our effort to change things for the better,” Acad. Denkov said. He counts on both the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Muslim denomination to help that virtues are brought to children and that they become again a priority at school along with education.

The Prime Minister recalled that he was elected an MP in the 48th and 49th National Assembly by the Shoumen Constituency and has good contacts with Muslims both as an MP and as a professor at the University of Sofia. In his view, the regions Shoumen, Turgovishte, Razgrad and Silistra hold a huge potential for economic development and the central government stands ready to support them in their endeavor.

Grand Mufti Dr. Hadzhi assured his guest of the aspiration of the Muslim denomination to work to suppress radical Islam and to enable the freedom of the profession of religion in line with traditions in Bulgaria. The host party informed about the charity initiatives of the Grand Mufti’s Office, thanked the authorities for the help to purchase a building for the High Islamic Institute, and asked for financial support for its renovation and for intercession for the accreditation of the Institute.
