Prime Minister Stefan Yanev met H. E. Mr. Yoram Elron, Ambassador of the State of Israel to Bulgaria. The discussion placed emphasis on bilateral relations that stand on a strong footing and their effective upward development today in a spirit of mutual trust, cooperation and friendship.
Prime Minister Yanev noted the close relationship of Bulgaria and Israel throughout history and said that today our ties are strong and rest on the community of interests and cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister and the Ambassador discussed new prospects for the promotion of win-win cooperation between the two countries in key areas of mutual interest, including innovation, cybersecurity and defense, medicine, water resources management and tourism. Special attention was given to good cooperation in education and culture.
The focal point of the discussion was the grave escalation of violence in Israel and in the Palestinian territories.
Prime Minister Stefan Yanev emphasized that a military solution is not a solution and appealed to apply an efficient diplomatic approach. In this context, Bulgaria supports all diplomatic efforts at EU and UN level and the efforts of international partners to achieve de-escalation of tension. Prime Minister Yanev availed of the opportunity to welcome the steps that Israel had taken to lessen and prevent tensions and to guarantee the freedom of religion in Jerusalem.
