Bulgaria has the potentials to become a regional innovative medicine center which implements and, in addition, contributes to the development of modern medical technologies. One of the major tasks of this government is to change the circumstances that make many people seek chances for treatment abroad. This was stated by Prime Minister Rumen Radev at a meeting at the government headquarters with members of the health innovative technologies sector. The meeting was attended by Health Minister Katya Ivkova.
The discussion touched on possibilities to establish a center of excellence in the field of robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery that will put Bulgaria on the map of the latest and least aggressive surgical methods of treatment of diseases of the human musculoskeletal system. At present Bulgaria does not have a center of excellence in this field. The establishment of such a center would make available latest roboticized devices and create conditions to train and employ highly skilled medics.
The meeting discussed, inter alia, the prospect of a reference center for radiosurgery in Bulgaria for highly specialized and non-invasive treatment in neurosurgical oncology, such as those that already exist in a number of countries. An item on the discussion agenda was the improvement of the availability of specific pump therapy treatment for children with diabetes.
