Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov gave Euractiv Bulgaria an exclusive interview, stating that Bulgaria and Romania can guard the EU’s external border much more effectively if they are inside Schengen and not outside. “If some, if not all, of the Bulgarian officers (police and military) who guard the borders with Romania and Greece are transferred to the Bulgarian-Turkish and Bulgarian-Serbian borders, we will protect the external borders of the EU much better,” he said.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister is sure that the abolition of the borders between Bulgaria and Greece and between Bulgaria and Romania will significantly speed up the transportation of goods, mainly food, for the Central European and some of the Eastern European countries. Fewer truck delays mean lower costs and lower inflation. “Recently, a study in Austria showed that the Number One problem for people is inflation, not migration. Political stability in this part of Europe would help all other countries, including Austria and the Western Balkans,” Denkov said. According to him, all these arguments were heard by the official authorities in Vienna.
