Prime Minister Kiril Petkov: The citizens of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia expect real results from the joint work of the two governments

25.01.2022

Today I expect the first real results as the citizens of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia want, said Prime Minister Kiril Petkov at the opening of the G2G meeting. The Prime Minister pointed out that the well-being of the two nations is most important. Nothing can be better than joint work, open economy, infrastructure connectivity, a common cultural agenda, speaking in one voice about European integration and pursuit of common topics, including history and human rights, Mr. Petkov added. The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that dialog and constructive work would oust nationalism, hate speech and discrimination attitude. Good neighborliness is the outcome of hard work with preset clear goals, the Bulgarian Prime Minister insisted.

Within just one week this is the second significant event in the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia. Following the visit of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov to Skopje on 18 January, this Government-to-Government Meeting is another key step in the promotion of the new dialog between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia. After the four work groups were set up on the Bulgarian side following an order of Prime Minister Petkov, today’s line meetings with the counterparts from Skopje will furnish an opportunity to instill further pragmatism into the bilateral talks. The groups’ vigorous activities in the coming months will give greater visibility to the benefits for the citizens of Bulgaria and of the Republic of North Macedonia of the enhancement of bilateral cooperation and will help achieve real results of mutual interest.
