Prime Minister Kiril Petkov: Strategic cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece brings benefits to the whole region

Strategic cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece was the main item on the agenda of the meeting of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov with his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Delphi. In the course of the discussion, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov stressed the importance of the partnership between the two countries for the stability and prosperity of the whole region.

 

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister cited as an example the gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) that in the current situation is becoming a key project for Europe in the context of the joint efforts to achieve energy diversification and independence. Prime Minister Kiril Petkov outlined the contribution made by the good political dialog with his Greek counterpart to the speedier implementation of the project that will be completed in midyear 2022. Prime Minister Kiril Petkov expressed his confidence that in addition to the energy sector, Bulgaria and Greece will continue to develop fruitful cooperation in a number of other areas.

 

Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and leaders of countries from the Western Balkans were invited to an informal luncheon hosted by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis where they exchanged opinion about the current situation in the region and about the region’s European perspective.

 

While in Delphi Prime Minister Kiril Petkov had a meeting with Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo. They discussed the development of bilateral relations. Bulgaria’s Prime Minister welcomed Kosovo’s desire to promote dialog with Bulgaria and stressed that both countries would gain from it. Another focus of the meeting was the challenges that confront the Western Balkans region and that stem from the war in Ukraine, including the challenge to guarantee food security.

 

At the forum, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov talked with Geoffrey Pyatt, United States Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic.
