Prime Minister Galab Donev meets Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Prime Minister Galab Donev hosted a working dinner in honor of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev within the framework of his official visit to Bulgaria. Satisfaction was expressed at the discussion with the strategic partnership established between the two countries.

 

Prime Minister Galab Donev emphasized the cooperation in the energy sector and Azerbaijan’s contribution as a reliable partner and guarantor for the security of gas supplies to Bulgaria and to the European Union.   The Prime Minister informed President Aliyev about the caretaker government’s solid and focused work to put into operation the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), which is key for the energy security in the region and for the diversification of energy sources.

 

Prime Minister Galab Donev noted that the longtime partnership between Sofia and Baku is a good premise to discuss the possibilities for Bulgaria to receive additional quantities of gas from Azerbaijan.

 

Given the strategic location of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan along the East-West Corridor, Prime Minister Galab Donev highlighted the potential benefits for both countries from deeper cooperation in the transport and connectivity sector.

 

In the course of the discussion, Prime Minister Galab Donev gave special attention to, inter alia, the interaction between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan in the field of culture and expressed his high appreciation for the results achieved.
