Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev: Intensive preparations for fair and free elections on 9 June to start
“The first sitting of the cabinet is to give a go ahead of the intensive preparations for fair and free elections on 9 June. It is the first priority of this caretaker government and we will proceed in strict abidance by the Constitution and the laws of the country and in close coordination with the Central Election Commission.” This was stated by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev at the first sitting of the caretaker government. The Prime Minister was firm that there would be no alternative to the honesty of the vote and that attempts to buy votes and to discredit elections in any other way would be resolutely counteracted by the authorities.
“I want to declare very clearly: the caretaker government prepares the elections but does not run for Parliament. An election campaign is coming up. I do not doubt that there are people who do not doubt that the campaign will be tense, to say the least. In this situation, we are bound to be coolheaded from the first to the last day of this cabinet. Our actions will be guided by the law, common sense and the interests of the Bulgarian citizens,” Prime Minister Glavchev said further.
The Prime Minister said that in addition to the preparations for elections, the government would likewise focus on the solution of urgent matters and problems in various sectors of public life. “The state does not have a standby mode. We will be all the time in our offices to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the institutions of the Executive. I am convinced that we will do a lot of work in the interest of the people during the term in office ahead,” the Prime Minister concluded.
