We look forward to positive news from the Netherlands about Schengen, said Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov for reporters in Brussels after the closing of the European Council meeting. The Prime Minister pointed out that today the Dutch government made a decision that is to be submitted to the Parliament of the Netherlands with which the final decision lies to lift the veto of the Netherlands.
“For this to materialize, a long distance was covered in the past months: the legislation approved in the National Assembly, the activity to enable the elimination of the special monitoring mechanism for Bulgaria concerning the rule of law, the positive findings of the mission that visited Sofia in November with members from the Netherlands and Austria. All these were the right signs that led to our expectation for a positive attitude from the Netherlands,” the Prime Minister said.
Regarding Austria, negotiations continue, Acad. Nikolai Denkov said further. In his words, possible texts are being exchanged on how a solution could read. “Unless it is agreed on, these are preliminary talks,” the Prime Minister said.
