“One more barrier to being equal to the rest of the European Union member countries in every respect has been removed. Soon we need to remove the other barriers and join Schengen and the Eurozone.” This was stated by Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov after the European Commission announced today the end of its monitoring of Bulgaria and Romania as exercised by the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) that was established when the two countries joined the European Union in 2007.
“On behalf of the Bulgarian government I thank the European Commission and the European countries’ leaders for the appreciation of the progress made by Bulgaria and Romania in the implementation of the rule of law and for lifting the special verification mechanism for our countries,” the Prime Minister said. From now onwards Bulgaria will be monitored for compliance with the rule of law subject to the mechanism that is applied to all other EU member states.
