27.11.2017

A high praise for the debates at today's “16+1” Summit and the agreements reached were given by the prime ministers of Bulgaria and China Boyko Borissov and Li Keqiang. The two spoke in Budapest where the forum took place.

Prime Minister Borissov thanked Li Keqiang for his strong support and personal commitment to the initiative, within whose framework the implementation of projects in this part of Europe has already begun, contributing to the improvement of infrastructure and connectivity in the region. He pointed out that this will remain the focus of Bulgaria as the next host country for the forum, as it also corresponds to its priorities during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Prime Minister also confirmed the support of the Bulgarian government for the other Chinese initiative - "One Belt, One Road", as well as for the EU-China Connectivity Platform.

Bulgaria values highly its relations with the People's Republic of China. Those are based on a tradition of friendship, mutual respect, willingness to expand cooperation, and to ensure it has concrete and practical results, Borissov said. As areas open to Chinese investments, he mentioned energy, infrastructure, transport, agriculture, industrial zones, e-commerce, innovation, and medicine. Borissov and Li Keqiang noted the opening of the first Chinese cultural center in Sofia a few days ago and expressed the expectation that it would become an attractive venue for cultural exchange.
