15.12.2017

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas discussed the implementation of the Program of the EU Council Trio Presidency countries - Estonia, Bulgaria, and Austria. The two spoke ahead of the European Council meeting in Brussels today. The two discussed the achievements during the Estonian Presidency and the themes that will continue to be under consideration after 1 January 2018.

Prime Minister Borissov welcomed the innovative and different approach that Ratas applied during the Estonian Presidency and stressed that its priorities will be covered by the Bulgarian Presidency, especially in the sectors of “digitization” and “cybersecurity.”

Borissov and Ratas agreed on the need for special attention to the Western Balkans. “We are all interested in the region being safer, more stable, and making significant progress. It is of utmost importance that the people of the Western Balkans know that they can rely on Europe and its solidarity,” said Prime Minister Borissov.

The positive agenda that Estonia, Bulgaria and Austria have set for themselves and which is oriented towards the future and delivering concrete results, will continue, the two leaders said. The Trio countries will defend their priorities regarding the security of European citizens, boosting employment, economic growth, continuing cohesion, and stabilizing EU neighbors, became clear from the meeting between Borissov and Ratas.

The Estonian Prime Minister congratulated the Bulgarian Prime Minister on the good preparation for the first Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and wished him success. Boyko Borissov, in turn, guaranteed that there will be full continuity in respect to the priorities outlined and invited Juri Ratas to Sofia.
