10.07.2017

Bulgaria and Turkey have a common understanding that the development of the gas transport infrastructure that encompasses more countries from the Balkans and Europe will guarantee a higher degree of energy security for the continent. The prime ministers of the two countries Boyko Borissov and Binali Yildirim agreed on this opinion at a meeting that was held within the framework of the 22-nd World Petroleum Congress in Istanbul. They pointed out that the good political and economic ties between Bulgaria and Turkey, as well as their geographical location, give importance the bilateral cooperation in the energy field for the transit of energy resources.

Borissov noted that a big step ahead in this respect would be the building of an inter-sysytem gas connection between Bulgaria and Turkey. He also underlined the support of the Bulgarian state for the development of the South gas corridor. “One of the countries with a key role for its implementation is namely Turkey. We state our support and very actively will work for its realization,” said Prime Minister Borissov.

Earlier today Borissov and Yildirim held informal talks in the margins of the World Petroleum Congress. The Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak also participated in the talks.
