PRIME MINISTERS BORISSOV AND TUDOSE DISCUSSED TOPICS OF BILATERAL INTEREST IN THE FIELDS OF ECONOMY AND INFRASTRUCTURE

During the plenary session of the Bulgarian and Romanian delegations at the
“Evksinograd” residence, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and his Romanian counterpart Mihai Tudose discussed topics of bilateral interest in the fields of the economy and infrastructure.

 

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov noted that the traffic between the two countries will be facilitated and increased through the construction of bridges, including the new bridge at Ruse-Gurgevo, effective ferryboat connections, new border checkpoints, and improvement of the conditions for navigation on the Danube river. The Bulgarian Prime Minister added that the further development of the Pan-European corridors IV, VIII and X is a prerequisite for the achievement of infrastructural connectivity, including with the states from the Western Balkans. According to him, this is of vital importance for the attainment of competitiveness and growth.

 

Prime Minister Borissov highlighted the serious work on the diversification of the energy deliveries not only from the South to the North, but also through horizontal energy connections. As a key element, he mentioned the realization of the gas hub “Balkan”.

 

The Bulgarian Prime Minister also pointed out the issue of the internal security of the European Union through the strengthening of its external borders, underlining in this respect the importance of the rapid accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen Area. The Prime Minister noted also the importance of Balkan cooperation within the framework of the EU, as well as the European perspective of the countries from the region.

 

The Romanian Prime Minsiter Mihai Tudose defined the meeting in Varna as very productive and put a special emphasis on the launch of the new border checkpoint, which is to the interest of the citizens of both countries. This meeting will remain in the history of the two countries, said Tudose and expressed readiness to continue with the bilateral contacts on a regular basis.
