PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV WILL MEET WITH THE TURKISH PRESIDENT RECEP TAYYIP ERDOĞAN IN ANKARA

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov will meet with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara tomorrow, March 2. The focus of their talks will be put on the situation in Syria and the migrant situation.

 

During a working dinner on Monday, the two leaders will discuss the actions that will help tackle the crisis in Syria and curb migrant pressure in the region.

The talks will be held in the context of Bulgarian-Turkish relations, based on the principles of good neighborliness, equality and mutual benefit. The meeting in Ankara between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is another confirmation of the serious ties between the two countries, which, apart from neighbors, are NATO allies and regional partners.

 

For Bulgaria, Turkey is an important partner of the EU in tackling a number of challenges such as migration pressure on Europe, the fight against terrorism, energy supplies and energy security, infrastructure, trade, the economy.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov discussed the situation in Syria and the migrant situation today in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The Bulgarian Prime Minister noted that only through joint efforts and diplomacy can stability and security be achieved in the region, which will mean peace and prosperity for Europe.

 

In the course of the conversation, Prime Minister Borissov noted before Chancellor Merkel that Turkey should not be left alone in such a situation and it needs to be urgently supported. "We need a long-term solution to the migration problem," Prime Minister Boyko Borissov emphasised.
