PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV TALKED WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE EC URSULA VON DER LEYEN

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov had a telephone conversation with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen regarding the situation in Syria and the migrant situation. The two discussed current developments in the region and expressed concern about the situation in Greece.

 

The President of the EC Ursula von der Leyen was informed by Prime Minister Borissov that migrant pressure is not serious at this moment in Bulgaria and the situation at our border with Turkey is calm.

 

In the course of the conversation, it was noted that a leading priority of the EC is to give assurance to Greece and Bulgaria that they have the full support of the institution. The Commission is ready to provide additional assistance to both sides, including through Frontex for border areas.

 

Boyko Borissov and Ursula von der Leyen spoke on the eve of the Bulgarian Prime inismter's meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara tomorrow. The Prime Minister noted that no country, Turkey too, should be left alone in such a situation and that it should be supported as soon as possible. Only through joint efforts and diplomacy can the problem of migration be solved in the long term, Boyko Borissov told Ursula von der Leyen.
