PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV SPOKE WITH THE PRESIDENT OF SWITZERLAND DORIS LEUTHARD

The Euro-Atlantic perspective of the countries from the Western Balkans and the priorities of the program of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU were the main topics during the meeting of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov with the President of Switzerland Doris Leuthard.

 

Prime Minister Borissov described the topic of the European perspective for the countries of the Western Balkans as a key priority in the program of the Bulgarian Presidency. “The debate on the future of Europe is related to the debate on the European integration of those countries, their inclusion, stability, prosperity, and adherence to the values of the Community. Therefore, the calendar of the Bulgarian Presidency foresees a Summit between the EU and the Western Balkan countries in May 2018,” pointed out the Prime Minister. According to him, the Swiss projects in the countries from the region can be very useful for their economic and social convergence with EU member states and the countries of the European Economic Area.

 

Doris Leuthard expressed support for the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and her expectation that Bulgaria will be a responsible President of the Council. Within the conversation, topics related to the future of united Europe were discussed, including the problems caused by the migration crisis and the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU.

 

Prime Minister Borissov presented the results from the government actions against smuggling and corruption. The Swiss President noted the progress achieved and expressed hope for the successful implementation of the planned steps and measures in the sector.
