PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV SPOKE ON THE PHONE WITH ALEXIS TSIPRAS AND NIKOS ANASTASIADES

In telephone conversations, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov informed Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiades respectively on the issues that were raised during the EU-Turkey Summit in Varna on 26 March. At the European Council meeting in Brussels on March 22 - 23, the Bulgarian Prime Minister committed to discussing with President Erdogan the issues concerning Greece and Cyprus on the one hand and Turkey on the other.

 

Borissov pointed out that, during his bilateral meeting with the Turkish President, he raised the issues of the detained Greek soldiers, the tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea, as well as the Cyprus question, and then those were also discussed during the working dinner with the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker. He also explained that the EU leaders insisted for a positive outcome before Easter in the case of the two Greek soldiers detained on Turkish soil. With regard to Cyprus, the Turkish President informed that a solution will be sought under international law. In his telephone conversations today, Boyko Borissov pointed out that the unfolding of the issue will be closely followed by Bulgaria and Brussels. According to the Bulgarian Prime Minister, restoring confidence and peace in the region is currently of critical importance.

 

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and President Nikos Anastasiades expressed their gratitude to Boyko Borissov for discussing these issues at the meeting in Varna.
