The issues discussed included stimulating economic growth and social cohesion to ensure the future of Europe and young people, ways to improve the connectivity of the Western Balkans and the European perspective for the countries and people of the region, the security and stability of the Union, and enhancing economic competitiveness through digitization and development of skills and competences corresponding to the challenges at hand.

The members of the parliamentary group congratulated the Prime Minister on the focus the Bulgarian Presidency has placed on the Western Balkans and the actions taken personally by Borissov and the government in Sofia to stimulate dialogue between these states. According to their comments, security in this region will contribute to the security and prosperity of the entire continent. EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber pointed out: “We have a strong leader in the face of Boyko Borissov, who has always identified himself with Europe and its values.”

Prime Minister Borissov thanked for the support that our country has been receiving from the EPP and EU institutions in preparation for the Presidency, as well as for their trust in the first days after taking over the Presidency. “This obliges us to be even more active in finding common solutions to provide every European citizen with the feeling of security, stability, solidarity and a future,” said the Prime Minister.

He pointed out that from his conversations with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurtz, he is convinced that there will be continuity in the topics started during the Bulgarian Presidency. “This will be the brightest expression of the fact that united we stand stronger,” Borissov said.
