Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with US Ambassador Herro Mustafa. The focus of the talks was the forthcoming First Session of the Bulgaria-US Strategic Dialogue, which will be held on January 8 in Bulgaria with the participation of US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale and his delegation.
During the Prime Minister's meeting with Ambassador Mustafa, the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the US, for which a framework was with specific areas of cooperation was agreed upon during Borissov's visit to the White House in November last year, was discussed.
"The Bulgaria-US strategic dialogue is of an extreme importance for the development of the relations between the two countries. The aim is for concrete results to be achieved through the development of cooperation in key areas of mutual interest, such as security and defense, counter-terrorism, energy security, law enforcement, education, people-to-people relations,” said Prime Minister Borissov.
During the conversation between the Prime Minister and the US Ambassador, the excellent relations between Bulgaria and the US in the field of security and defense were noted, both bilaterally and within NATO. Other topics related to the rule of law were discussed.
The Prime Minister emphasised that our country has an interest in further developing its trade and economic relations with the US while maintaining the positive tendency for sustainable growth of bilateral trade. The importance of the cooperation between Bulgaria and the USA in the field of energy was emphasized on, which has the potential to contribute to strengthening the energy security of our country and the diversification of energy sources and routes, including through importing liquefied natural gas.
Prime Minister Borissov and Ambassador Mustafa discussed more relevant topics on the international agenda. Also present at the meeting was Jessica Kim, a Permanent Legal Advisor to the US Embassy in Bulgaria.
