PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV MET WITH THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION VALDIS DOMBROVSKIS IN BRUSSELS

"We will progress to the Eurozone waiting room at this rate and only with the absolute consensus in the country." This is what Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said after his meeting with the European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis in Brussels. During the talks, they discussed the country's progress towards joining the Eurozone waiting room /ERM II/.

Prime Minister Borissov noted the steady growth of the Gross Domestic Product of Bulgaria for many years, and the financial stability and discipline, which are highly appreciated by the European Commission and its Vice-President. We are talking about the month of July, not the month of April. Until then, Bulgarian banks have to closely monitor their capital assets so that there are no further obstacles," the Prime Minister added.

"When the Vice-President of the European Commission, a former Prime Minister, the Commissioner responsible for this, clearly states that Bulgaria will enter the Eurozone waiting room only at a fixed rate by the date agreed for by the Bulgarian Parliament - I can not be more convincing than this,” said Boyko Borissov.

European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis said that the current exchange rate at which the lev is set to the euro will securely remain the same after our country joins the eurozone. Bulgaria has good credit history of fiscal and budgetary discipline, it has the second lowest debt of a country in the EU as a debt-to-GDP ratio, Valdis Dombrovskis further noted.
