PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV MET WITH THE US AMBASSADOR TO GREECE JEFFREY PIATT

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with United States Ambassador to Greece Jeffrey Piatt. The talks were part of the Fourth Thessaloniki Summit

 

The focus of the meeting was the diversification of natural gas sources and routes for Bulgaria and the region of South East Europe. Prime Minister Borissov reminded of the progress made in building the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector, which is of a strategic importance for ensuring energy security in the region. The Prime Minister also emphasized on the deliveries of liquefied natural gas to the Bulgarian market since the beginning of 2019 - 396 million cubic meters, including 182 million cubic meters of gas originating in the USA.

 

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Ambassador Piatt also discussed Bulgaria's participation as a shareholder in the project to build a liquefied natural gas terminal near Alexandroupolis, Greece. The Bulgarian state has decided to participate with 20% in the capital of the project company. At present, Bulgargaz is analyzing the quantities of liquefied natural gas it has to reserve in the second binding phase of the market test.

 

In the course of the talks, the cooperation between Bulgaria and the US in the field of security and defense as partners in NATO was highly evaluated.
