Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with the Prime Minister of the autonomous Iraqi region of Kurdistan, Masrour Barzani, in the framework of the Munich Security Conference. This is the first meeting between Boyko Borissov and Masrour Barzani, during which directions for enhancing bilateral relations in a number of areas were outlined.

"Bulgaria is following with great concern the development of the situation in Iraq, which faces many challenges. I hope that the new Iraqi government will soon be approved by the parliament and continue the trend to fully normalize relations between the federal Iraqi government and the government of the autonomous Iraqi region of Kurdistan in accordance with the Iraqi constitution," Bulgarian Prime Minister Borissov noted to Barzani.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that without the support of the international community, it would be very difficult to stabilize and rebuild Iraq. "Together with our EU and NATO partners, the UN and the entire international community, we are ready to provide all possible assistance in stabilizing and rebuilding Iraq," said Boyko Borissov.

In the course of the talks with Barzani, Bulgarian Prime Minister Borissov also expressed Bulgaria's readiness to assist in carrying out economic reform in Iraq that would satisfy the legitimate demands of the Iraqi people for a better life. "The Bulgarian side would like to develop its relations with the autonomous Iraqi region of Kurdistan in all possible areas, including in the areas of trade and economics," Boyko Borissov added.
