15.02.2020

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti. The two talked in the framework of the security conference in Munich. The Bulgarian Prime Minister congratulated Kurti on his election as Prime Minister. According to Borissov, the process of forming the government in Kosovo has shown a high level of political maturity. He expressed his hope that the country will proceed to implement the necessary internal reforms. "Kosovo is like a collective image of problems and expectations for a good future. It all depends on how it is being run,” the Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out to Albin Kurti.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov emphasised that there are no unresolved or open politically sensitive issues between Bulgaria and the Republic of Kosovo, and bilateral relations have always been characterized by mutual trust. According to the Bulgarian Prime Minister, there is a potential to expand the cooperation in the fields of economy, investment and tourism. The record commodity exchange in 2018 of EUR 77.6 million is a reason for optimism, as well as the positive trend in 2019.

Prime Minister Borissov also focused on the European integration of the Western Balkan countries, which is of a strategic interest for Bulgaria and the EU. An example of the Bulgarian support for Kosovo's European path is the grant given last year under the Official Development Assistance Program of BGN 94,000.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov expressed his hope that the new government of Kosovo would continue with its efforts and will contribute to creating conditions for a full normalization of the relations with Serbia.
