PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV MET WITH THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY HEIKO MAAS

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Heiko Maas. In the Council of Ministers, they discussed relevant topics of bilateral nature, as well as issues from the agenda of the European Union.

 

During the conversation, the strong bilateral cooperation in a number of areas was noted. In addition to the intensive political dialogue between Bulgaria and Germany, during the meeting it was also indicated that the two states would remain strategic partners in the area of trade and investment. In 2018, the exchange of goods between the two states is worth EUR 8,153 billion in 2018, which is 11.8% more than last year. Germany’s investments in Bulgaria in 2018 amounted to EUR 153,7 million. During the meeting, the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov pointed out that preserving the tendency of growth in bilateral trade, as well as the increase of Bulgarian goods on the German market in sectors such as electronics, electrical engineering, machine building, and information technologies, remains a priority for our state.

 

During the conversation between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Minister Heiko Maas new possibilities for further bilateral cooperation in the sectors of tourism, education, science, and culture were discussed. An example for the bilateral cooperation is the introduction of the model of dual professional education in Bulgaria.

 

 Preserving the stability in the Western Balkan states, promoting their European perspective, and ensuring the security of the external border of the EU were also among the topics discussed during the meeting between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the German Minister of Foreign Affairs Maas. Another focus of the conversation was also the energy security of our state, including the diversification of the sources, routes, and suppliers of gas.
