PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV MET WITH THE HUNGARIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE PETER SIARTO

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Siarto defined the bilateral political and economic relations as excellent. At a meeting at the Council of Ministers today, they noted the significance of the agreement on economic cooperation that was signed last year, which has stimulated the closer contacts between the business and the institutions of the two states.

Peter Siarto is in Sofia for the First Session of the Bulgarian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Committee for Economic Cooperation and the Bulgarian-Hungarian Business Forum. The expectation was stated that those will contribute to the further clarification of current economic topics and will entail the establishment of new partnerships.

Prime Minister Borissov and Minister Siarto pointed out that the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU reflect issues that are also important for Hungary, such as the Western Balkans, the future of Europe, the guarantee for the security of European citizens, the Multiannual Financial Framework, and the Cohesion Policy. Borissov highlighted that the Bulgarian Presidency will work for the attainment of a broad consensus on the main topics from the EU agenda and will rely on constructiveness and solidarity on the side of member states.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the continuous support of Hungary for the Bulgarian accession to Schengen, which remains a government priority.
