Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Bulgaria Dong Xiaojun.

The meeting between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Ambassador Dong was focused on the encouragement and activation of the political and economic dialogue between Bulgaria and China. The Ambassador noted that the bilateral relations between the two states are excellent and that the active partnership in the areas of investment, agriculture, tourism, and culture should continue to develop.

During the conversation, an emphasis was put on the fact that our state successfully hosted the initiative “16+1,” during which the procedure for Greece’s accession was initiated. “Your state plays a leading role in the initiative, which was demonstrated by the creation of the Global Center for Partnership according to this format,” said Ambassador Dong Xiaojun.

The visit of China’s Premier Li Keqiang last year in Sofia was recognized as a contribution towards the increasing cooperation between the two states. Ambassador Dong said that the Chinese Premier was immensely impressed by Bulgaria’s cultural heritage, and more specifically by the Thracian treasure. On this note, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Chinese Ambassador agreed that partnership in the area of cultural and historical tourism should be promoted. Both of them agreed that during this year, being the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states, events with a focus on the cultural heritage of Bulgaria could be initiated.

During the meeting between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Chinese Ambassador, a focus was also put on investments and possibilities for further boost of business contacts between the two countries. Dong Xiaojun thanked for Bulgaria’s support regarding the initiative “One belt, one road.”
