PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV MET WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE GERMAN-BULGARIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY AND THE EASTERN COMMISSION OF THE GERMAN ECONOMY

"There are excellent conditions for business development in Bulgaria. It is not a coincidence, that, according to surveys, 88% of German companies respond positively to the question of whether they would invest in our country again." This is what Prime Minister Boyko Borissov stated during a meeting with representatives of the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Eastern Commission for the German economy.

 

The meeting with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at the Council of Ministers was attended by representatives of big German companies who want to develop and expand their business in Bulgaria. A perspective for future investments is the interest shown by German companies in the field of transport infrastructure, energy and energy efficiency, water and waste management, mechanical engineering, production of auto parts and details, electronics and electrical engineering, food industry, etc.

 

The participants in the meeting welcomed Prime Minister Boyko Borissov's personal commitment to increasing German investment in Bulgaria. "The relations between the two countries are extremely well developed. Over 1400 German companies employing over 60,000 people are represented in Bulgaria. The development of our relations is exceptionally positive, said Janusz Kulik, spokesman for the working group for Southeastern Europe for the German Eastern Business Association.

 

Germany remains Bulgaria's leading foreign trade partner. For the period January - August 2019, our exports to Germany amount to EUR 2.876 billion and have increased by 1.3% compared to the same period of 2018. "Bulgaria is one of the few countries in the world that can say it has a positive trade balance with Germany," Prime Minister Borissov said. In 2018, trade between the two countries reached a record of EUR 8 153 million. It is expected to exceed EUR 9 billion this year.

 

For 2018, foreign direct investment from Germany amounts to EUR 105.4 million. About 30% of the 100 largest investors in Bulgaria are German or are with German participation.

 

Germany is Bulgaria's leading  partner in tourism among EU countries and is one of the most important markets for Bulgarian touristic products. For 2018 our country has been visited by over 850 000 German tourists.
