PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV MET WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE BUNDESTAG EUROPEAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

Cooperation with Germany on important topics from the European agenda was discussed by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and representatives of the Bundestag’s European Affairs Committee.

 

The results of the EU Council Presidency led by Bulgaria were highlighted, with a focus on the key role of our country in activating the dialogue with the countries from the Western Balkans and stimulating their reforms. During the conversation, Boyko Borissov pointed out that EU integration requires the establishment and consolidation of good neighborly relations without unresolved political issues, as well as the stimulation of regional cooperation on joint projects in the field of energy, security, and infrastructure.

 

The issue of migration was also debated, whereby the need for effective management and control of EU external borders for the security of the Union and for the smooth implementation of the right to free movement was highlighted. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that Bulgarian accession to the Schengen area remains a priority that will strengthen common European security.

 

The Danube Strategy, Brexit, the Multiannual Financial Framework, the Coordination and Verification Mechanism were also in the focus of the talks between the Bulgarian Prime Minister and the German members of parliament.
