PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV MET WITH LUCA VISENTINI

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met in Brussels with the General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation Luca Visentini.

 

Visentini highly appreciated the work of the Bulgarian Presidency in the field of employment and social policy and actions related to the dossiers in the Council, chaired by Minister Biser Petkov.

 

Borissov and Visentini summed up the results of the discussions during the Tripartite Social Meeting. The Bulgarian Prime Minister reiterated the need to develop the social dimension and make Europe a model for social standards. Borissov pointed out that to this aim, it is necessary to work not only on a national but also on a pan-European level to overcome the pay gap, as this could boost economic growth and the creation of a strong Social and Cohesion Fund.

 

The leader of the European trade unionists presented the idea of the so-called Alliance for Income Cohesion of the EU countries, aimed at reducing and overcoming the inequalities in the different EU countries. The intention of ETUC is to launch it during the Bulgarian Presidency.

 

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Biser Petkov and the President of CITUB Plamen Dimitrov.
