The Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Poland, Boyko Borissov and Mateusz Morawiecki, discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries in a telephone conversation. The two unequivocally re-confirmed the understanding and good cooperation in a variety of areas that the two countries have built up.

“Poland is a very important country for the European Union,” Prime Minister Borissov said in the context of Warsaw-Brussels relations and highlighted yet again that unity is the positive outcome for the EU. “It is not by accident that this is the motto of the Bulgarian Presidency – United we stand stronger. This is a lesson learned from our own history and, as President of the Council, Bulgaria will seek agreement and work for the unity of the Union,” added Borissov.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister informed his Polish counterpart of the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and invited him to the summit in Sofia on 17 May, when the leaders will discuss the topic of the “Western Balkans”. “The debate on the future of Europe is related to the debate on the European integration of these countries, their inclusion, stability, prosperity and abidance by the values of the Community," Borissov said.

Boyko Borissov and Mateusz Morawiecki also discussed the possibilities for deepening the cooperation in the field of tourism. Polish tourists who visited Bulgaria between January and November 2017 reached nearly 400,000, which presents a 7,7 percent growth compared to the same period in 2016. There is also a growth in the number of Bulgarian tourists who stayed in Poland – over 60 thousand or 35,3% more compared to the same period for the previous year.
