16.10.2017

The results at the recent local elections in the Republic of Macedonia are a proof for the approval of the policy implemented by your government – a policy of good neighborly relations, dialogue, and understanding, a policy that rests on European values. With these words, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov congratulated the Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev in a phone conversation today.

According to Borissov, with the positive signal that it made both to the people of Macedonia and the international community, the Agreement for good neighborly relations with Bulgaria, signed in the beginning of August, is a big step on the path of establishing the Republic of Macedonia as a serious partner for NATO and the European Union. “We decided to look ahead to the future and your compatriots confirmed this choice. I am sure that the results will follow shortly,” pointed out Prime Minister Borissov and underlined that Bulgaria will continue to support the development of the Republic of Macedonia and its accession to NATO and the European Union.

Boyko Borissov pointed out that the topic of integrating the Western Balkan countries into the Euro-Atlantic structures will be a priority for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. He expressed the hope that with persistence and by fulfilling all requirements, the perspective for accession of the Republic of Macedonia to the EU and NATO will become ever more clear.
