PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV AND PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN HELD A PHONE CONVERSATION

11.05.2017

The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin wished a successful third mandate to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in a phone call that took place today.

Putin and Borissov noted the good development of the trade and economic relations, thereby underlining the increase of 20% in Russian tourists in our country and of 18% in the bilateral trade volume. They pointed out that these numbers still do not match the potential of the relations and their further increase is of mutual interest to Bulgaria and Russia.

The big energy projects in Bulgaria were also a topic that was discussed. Both sides highlighted the mutual interest in building the European gas hub “Balkan” on Bulgarian territory. The project for the “Belene” Nuclear Power Plant was also discussed. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that the government is looking for a strategic private investor to develop the project.

A highlight was also put on the events dedicated to the 25-th anniversary of the Bulgarian-Russian treaty for friendly relations and cooperation, which will be marked on 4 August 2017, as well as the 140-th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria, which will be marked in 2018.
