17.01.2018

Today Prime Minister Boyko Borissov spoke with European Parliament President Antonio Tajani, just before presenting the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union at the Strasbourg plenary.

They both expressed the view that the success of the European Union depends on the joint work of the institutions to the benefit of the citizens and that the cooperation between the Bulgarian Presidency and European Parliament will be driven by this goal. It was emphasized that the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency correspond to a large extent to the work program of the MEPs.

“We take into account the important role of the European Parliament in the successful conduction of the Presidency because it represents the interests of all European citizens and is the guarantor of the legitimacy of the policies pursued,” said Prime Minister Borissov. Before that, he wrote the message of the Bulgarian Presidency “United we stand stronger” in the honorary book of the European Parliament.

Antonio Tajani welcomed the inclusion of the topics of youth and the development of the Western Balkans as priorities in the Presidency's agenda. He pointed out that during his visits to Bulgaria he clearly saw the willingness of our country to make progress on these topics, as well as the existence of expert knowledge and good diplomatic and interpersonal contacts that will stimulate the processes of integration in the region.
