PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISOV MET WITH TURKISH PRESIDENT RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul. The talks between the two leaders took place after the inauguration ceremony of the TurkStream gas pipeline.

 

Borissov and Erdogan discussed expanding the bilateral political and economic cooperation. The Bulgarian Prime Minister Borissov put an emphasis on the stable and sustainable development of the relations between Bulgaria and Turkey in a number of sectors. It was noted that the partnership between the two countries is based on the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect. "Turkey is our neighbor, an ally in NATO and our key partner in the areas of migration, security, counter-terrorism, energy, agriculture," Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said.

 

In the course of the talks, Prime Minister Borissov pointed out that our country highly appreciates Turkey's contribution to the migration issues and identified the implementation of the joint EU-Turkey Statement of 18 March 2016 as a key factor. “Diplomacy and peace should remain the leading factors when solving a number of issues. We all have an interest in building a future based on stability, security and prosperity," also said Prime Minister Borissov during the meeting.

 

The Bulgarian Prime Minister and the Turkish President also discussed the situation in the Middle East. Prime Minister Borissov pointed out that our country has never pursued a policy against any country. "Only peace can solve the problems in the Middle East," said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
