03.03.2020

We continue with all our will to fight for the good neighborliness, understanding, peaceful and amicable resolution of the conflicts in our region. We are convinced that only with this understanding can we solve the migrant crisis, and not only it. This is what Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said at a briefing after his meeting with the President of the EC Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel. "We show willpower, patience and we want to live in a peaceful region," Borissov said. The Prime Minister was certain that Bulgaria is setting an example after earlier today, together with the leaders of the two European institutions, he inspected part of our southern border.

"Thank you for the celebration of Bulgaria's Liberation day today, the leading EU officials came to share with us Bulgarians this national holiday, they put martenitsi on," said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

"In the face of Prime Minister Borissov, we see not only a friend, but also a true European," EC President Ursula von der Leyen said. "We have had a lot of intense discussions about the strategic approach we are taking regarding migration and how to work with Turkey in the region. It was important for us to learn from the immense experience that Prime Minister Borissov had in the region and the good neighborly relations that Bulgaria has with other countries, "said Ursula von der Leyen. She emphasized that the Bulgarian experience is of strategic importance for the region.

European Council President Charles Michel thanked for the excellent cooperation between the Bulgarian government and the EU. "Today we are further convinced of how much you are involved in protecting Bulgaria's border, which is important not only for Bulgaria but also for the future of the EU. We see all the efforts you continue to make to protect the border. You can count on European solidarity,” Charles Michel was certain. He said EU countries should act together to make the EU more effective at the international level. "The meeting today has helped us better understand the common challenges we face. You can count on us," the President of the European Council concluded.
