29.06.2017

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Mayor of Dubrovnik Mato Frankovic unveiled a memorial stone of the Dubrovnik Charter of Tsar Ivan Asen II in the city. The memorial is a symbol of the historical roots between Bulgaria and Croatia and commemorates our ancestors.

In his speech during the ceremony, Prime Minister Borissov noted that the friendship between the two states has deep historical roots and our partnership continues to develop successfully on the Balkans and within the European Union. According to him, the Charter, whereby Tsar Ivan Asen II gives the Dubrovnik tradesmen privileges, is an important historical source for commercial relations. The Prime Minister reminded of other historical moments about the contacts between the two people – the role of Pavel Djordjic in the outbreak of the Tarnovo revolt and of Josip Stosmeier for the publication of the collection of folk songs of the Miladinovi brothers.

“I am convinced that now within the EU and NATO all of us. Together on the Balkans, will stop to talk about conflicts and will speak about how we can develop the business, how we can increase the income and how people can live better,” added Prime Minister Borissov.

Prime Minister Borissov, together with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva and the Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU 2018 Lilyana Pavlova, is in Croatia to participate in tomorrow’s Summit of the heads of state and government of the countries from the South East Europe Cooperation Process.
