PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV: THE BALKANS SHOULD BECOME A ROLE-MODEL FOR PEACE, STABILITY, AND PROSPERITY

03.10.2017

We have agreed that on the Balkans there is no one that is grand, we are all equal and we should develop our relations in such a way as to become a role-model for peace, stability, and prosperity, said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at a briefing after the quadrilateral Balkan summit that he hosted at the “Evksinograd” Residence, where he spoke with the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose, and the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov expressed his desire that the Balkans would radiate peace, stability, and prosperity, which is to the interest of the people and the business in the region, and would contribute to the realization of common constructive projects. “We want to help the EU not to be concerned about our region, we do not want to have problems being created in the region. We have grown wiser and we seek development, not quarrels,” added Borissov. According to him, the natural place for Serbia is within the EU.

The Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic thanked for the support that Serbia receives on its European path. “For us peace and stability are most important,” he pointed out and underlined the importance of the infrastructural projects among the four countries. Vucic expressed hope to be a good host of the next meeting in the same format in Belgrade.

The four countries can place a considerable role in the development of the region, said in turn the Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras. He welcomed the Bulgarian initiative to hold a summit on the Western Balkans during the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. Tsipras put a focus on cooperation between the four countries in the fields of energy, transport, and security crises management. If the large-scale projects that we have been discussing are implemented, this will change the horizon and will provide our region with a different set of prospects, added the Greek Prime Minister.

The Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose put a highlight on good neighborly relations and energy security. According to him, the four countries should work as one in partnership when it comes to energy issues and should have good coordination in respect to infrastructural projects.
