PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV SUPPORTED THE LAW-MAKING INITIATIVES OF THE OMBUDSMAN MAYA MANOLOVA FOR FIGHTING MODERN SLAVERY AND LIMITING THE AUTHORITY OF PRIVATE ENFORCEMENT AGENTS

06.07.2017

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov gave his full support for the draft laws, submitted to the National Assembly by the Ombudsman Maya Manolova, whose aim is to stop the so called “modern slavery” and to limit the authority of private enforcement agents. At the meeting, held at the Council of Ministers, the two agreed that additional legal measures are needed to protect the working and social rights of employees, as well as in ensuring an even playing ground for the citizens in relation to private enforcement agents, the banks and the monopolies within the context of a private litigation lawsuit.

Prime Minister Borissov assured the Ombudsman Maya Manolova that he will ask the parliamentary group of political party GERB to be fully committed to the process of adopting the legal texts submitted by her and will insist that those be referred to as priorities by the deputies and be adopted by the end of September this year.

Ms Manolova defined the reform concerning the overall change in the attitude of the administration towards the citizens and the business undertaken by Prime Minister Borissov and the government as adequate and timely. She expressed readiness to assist the process, according to the authority of the institution of the Ombudsman, so as to stop the debasement that citizens are subject to when seeking administrative services.
