PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV SPOKE WITH THE FRENCH PRESIDENT EMMANUEL MACRON

In a phone call with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, the French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his congratulations on the occasion of the 24th of May as a celebration of Bulgarian language and culture and the Slavic alphabet. The two leaders mutually congratulated each other on the election victories and wished themselves success in government. Macron noted that for him it would be a great honor to work together with Prime Minister Borissov. He expressed the desire to continue the deepening of the cooperation between Bulgaria and France in the interest of both economies.

 

The forthcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU next year was also discussed. The French President said that his country is ready to provide support both to the teams working in preparation and in regard to the Presidency priorities. The migration issue was discussed as well, with Prime Minister Borissov pointing out that in the recent six months the pressure on the border is close to zero. According to him, this is due to the measures undertaken and the border protection facility. Borissov invited Macron to visit the Bulgarian border and verify the situation personally.

 

Prime Minister Borissov underlined that European integration continues to be an irrevocable priority for the country and Bulgaria supports common European decisions for the prosperity of the EU. At the end of the conversation, President Macron invited Prime Minister Borissov to visit France with the expectation that the visit will take place at his earliest convenience.
